Dubai authorities said debris from an intercepted drone caused a fire at the city’s iconic Burj Al Arab hotel.

« Authorities confirm that a drone was intercepted and debris caused a minor fire on the Burj Al Arab’s outer facade, » the Dubai Media Office wrote on X. The sail-shaped building intact and undamaged, several media reported.

« Civil Defence teams responded immediately and brought the incident under control. No injuries have been reported ».

Earlier in the day, the Fairmont Hotel on Palm Jumeirah was similarly struck by debris from an intercepted Iranian missile strike.

« Dubai Airports confirms that a concourse at Dubai International (DXB) sustained minor damage in an incident, which was quickly contained, » Dubai Media Office wrote on X.

« Four staff sustained injuries and received prompt medical attention. Due to contingency plans already in place, most of the terminals were previously cleared of passengers, » it added. 

The UAE Ministry of Defence says its air defences destroyed 132 missiles launched toward the country and intercepted 195 Iranian drones during the recent barrage of attacks.

The death toll in Israel’s attack on an Iranian elementary school rose to 108, according to local media.

Earlier on Saturday, Iranian state television reported that an Israeli hit the Shajareh Tayyebeh girls’ elementary school in the southern Iranian town of Minab.

Videos circulating online appear to show people cheering and chanting in Tehran following the announcement of the alleged death of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei on Saturday evening.

Several media reported that Khamenei’s body has been found. Neither Iran nor the United States have confirmed.

A senior Israeli official told news agency Reuters that Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei’s body has been found, several Israeli media outlets reported.

It comes moments after Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu claimed there were « signs » that the Iranian leader « is no longer ».

Earlier, Israeli media reported that dozens of bombs had been dropped on Khamenei’s compound.

European Council President António Costa « strongly condemned » Iran’s attacks « against several countries in the region ».

« These strikes represent a dangerous escalation of the military situation in the Middle East, » Costa wrote on X, offering his solidarity to the « targeted countries ».

« I welcome today’s meeting of the United Nations Security Council. It must work towards restoring peace and stability in the region and ensuring that Iran never acquires a nuclear weapon ».

EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas said the bloc’s foreign ministers would hold talks on Iran on Sunday to discuss the escalating conflict across the Middle East.



« I have been in contact with our partners in the Gulf countries. The Iranian regime’s indiscriminate attacks against its neighbours carry the risk of dragging the region into a broader war and we condemn this, » EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas wrote on X.

« It is essential that the war does not spread any further. The Iranian regime has choices to make ».

The Israeli military said roughly 200 fighter jets have struck Iranian missile and air defence system’s in western and central Iran.

« 500+ targets hit, including aerial defense systems & missile launchers in several locations throughout Iran simultaneously, » the army wrote in a statement on X.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said there were signs indicating Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei « is no longer ».

The comment comes after Israeli media reported that 30 bombs had been dropped on Khamenei’s compound.

« Thirty bombs were dropped on the complex. Ali Khamenei was underground, but probably not in his own bunker, » Amit Segal, journalist at Israel’s Channel 12 network reported. Segal is known to have close ties to Netanyahu but did not name a source.

Earlier in the day, Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said in an interview with NBC News that Khamenei is alive “as far as I know”.

Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has written to the United Nations Security Council, calling for the body to “take immediate action in response to this breach of international peace and security ».

Araghchi has reiterated Iran will continue to exercise its right of self-defence until the aggression ceases.

« All bases, facilities, and assets of the hostile forces in the region shall be regarded as legitimate military objectives, » he wrote in the letter.

The council is expected to hold an emergency meeting later.

The Iranian Red Crescent reported on Saturday evening that at least 201 people were killed and 747 wounded in strikes by the United States and Israel against Iran.

The organisation said « 24 (of Iran’s 31) provinces were affected and the Red Crescent is in a state of alert, » in a statement published by the ISNA news agency.

This is the first official Iranian toll from the strikes.

The Strait of Hormuz appears to be open, despite reports that the pathway was allegedly closed.

Iran’s Revolutionary Guards sent radio messages on Saturday to vessels warning them they could not enter the Strait of Hormuz, AFP reported.

The US Transportation Department had urged vessels to stay away from the Strait of Hormuz, Gulf, Gulf of Oman and Arabian Sea, as they are subject to “significant military activity”.

President Emmanuel Macron said that « France was neither warned of nor involved in » the US-Israeli strikes on Iran, « just like all the other countries in the region and our allies ».

Speaking at an emergency defence council late on Saturday, the French leader also emphasised that diplomacy must regain the upper hand to calm the conflict between the US and Israel against Iran.

« Nobody can think that the issues of Iran’s nuclear programme, ballistic (missile) activities, regional destabilisation efforts can be simply solved with strikes, » he said.
