The conflict across the Middle East began on Saturday morning, when the United States and Israel launched coordinated strikes across Iran.
In retaliation for the US-Israel joint strikes, Iran initially targeted US military assets in all countries across the Gulf region except Oman. By Saturday evening, reports emerged that Tehran’s drones had hit residential areas of Dubai and Bahrain.
In a video on social media, US President Donald Trump indicated the US was striking for reasons far beyond the nuclear programme, listing grievances stretching back to the beginning of the Islamic Republic in 1979.
Several countries in the region closed their airspace, forcing flight cancellations and some planes en route to cities like Tel Aviv and Dubai were diverted or forced to return to where they took off from.

Dubai authorities said debris from an intercepted drone caused a fire at the city’s iconic Burj Al Arab hotel.

Four injured at Dubai International Airport, Dubai Media Office says

The Israeli military said roughly 200 fighter jets have struck Iranian missile and air defence system’s in western and central Iran.

Netanyahu says ‘there are signs’ that Iranian leader Khamenei is dead
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said there were signs indicating Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei « is no longer ».
The comment comes after Israeli media reported that 30 bombs had been dropped on Khamenei’s compound.
« Thirty bombs were dropped on the complex. Ali Khamenei was underground, but probably not in his own bunker, » Amit Segal, journalist at Israel’s Channel 12 network reported. Segal is known to have close ties to Netanyahu but did not name a source.
Earlier in the day, Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said in an interview with NBC News that Khamenei is alive “as far as I know”.
Iran calls on the United Nations to take ‘immediate action’
Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has written to the United Nations Security Council, calling for the body to “take immediate action in response to this breach of international peace and security ».
Araghchi has reiterated Iran will continue to exercise its right of self-defence until the aggression ceases.
« All bases, facilities, and assets of the hostile forces in the region shall be regarded as legitimate military objectives, » he wrote in the letter.
The council is expected to hold an emergency meeting later.
Iranian Red Crescent says 201 people were killed and 747 wounded in Iran
The Iranian Red Crescent reported on Saturday evening that at least 201 people were killed and 747 wounded in strikes by the United States and Israel against Iran.
The organisation said « 24 (of Iran’s 31) provinces were affected and the Red Crescent is in a state of alert, » in a statement published by the ISNA news agency.
This is the first official Iranian toll from the strikes.
France urges citizens in Qatar to stay indoors

The Strait of Hormuz appears to be open, despite reports that the pathway was allegedly closed.
Iran’s Revolutionary Guards sent radio messages on Saturday to vessels warning them they could not enter the Strait of Hormuz, AFP reported.
The US Transportation Department had urged vessels to stay away from the Strait of Hormuz, Gulf, Gulf of Oman and Arabian Sea, as they are subject to “significant military activity”.
France says it was not informed in advance of strikes in Iran, Macron says
President Emmanuel Macron said that « France was neither warned of nor involved in » the US-Israeli strikes on Iran, « just like all the other countries in the region and our allies ».
Speaking at an emergency defence council late on Saturday, the French leader also emphasised that diplomacy must regain the upper hand to calm the conflict between the US and Israel against Iran.
« Nobody can think that the issues of Iran’s nuclear programme, ballistic (missile) activities, regional destabilisation efforts can be simply solved with strikes, » he said.
